From Beach Music to a Movement

We sokkie for a cause!

OUR STORY

Our Story

It all started on a warm summer evening in Stellenbosch, when a group of friends decided to host a sokkie evening on the beach.

What started as a small gathering quickly grew into a community of more than 500 members who regularly come together to dance, laugh and make a difference.

We've shown that a speaker, a beach, and a little courage are all you need to build a community.

✦ What We Stand For ✦

Our Mission

Three pillars that guide everything we do — from the first dance step to the last song.

Community

We build real human connection through dance — not the usual club scene. Every sokkie evening is a chance to make new friends and strengthen old bonds.

Charity

Every dance contributes to a bigger cause. From Strandskoonmaak to donations to the Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre — we give back with every step.

Real Connection

In a world of screen time, we offer something genuine. No pretence, no posing — just people dancing and laughing together.

What is Sokkie?

Sokkie is a friendly South African social dance traditionally danced to Afrikaans music. It's easy to learn and everyone is welcome — whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned dancer!

At Vastrap we offer a sokkie class at the start of every evening where our instructor teaches you the basic steps. Before you know it, you're on the dance floor!

Everyone is welcome! No partner needed.

Our Charity Work

Vastrap Sokkieklub is more than just a dance club. Every gathering begins with a Strandskoonmaak to protect the places we love.

We support the Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre through regular donations and awareness campaigns. A portion of every ticket sale goes directly to charity.

The HBSRC Project

The Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre rescues and rehabilitates injured and abandoned Cape fur seals. We're proud to support this incredible organisation.
