About Us

We began as a tight-knit group of friends searching for a fun evening activity that didn’t revolve around clubbing or partying. Our solution? Hitting the beach with a speaker and sparking a sokkie dance session. What started as a small, joyful escape soon grew into something bigger—friends of friends joined, then strangers became friends, and today, our community spans nearly a thousand people united by rhythm, connection, and a shared love for wholesome fun.

As our numbers grew, so did our desire to give back. Now, we kick off every beach gathering with a cleanup to protect the spaces we love, and we support charitable causes like the Hout Bay Seal Rescue Center (HBSRC) through donations and awareness. But we didn’t stop there. We’ve expanded our reach to host events at local venues, where a portion of ticket sales directly fund charitable initiatives. These gatherings let us amplify our impact while keeping the heart of our mission alive: fostering authentic, in-person connections.

Our free Strand sokkies will always remain open to everyone—no strings attached. They’re a place to dance, laugh, and build lasting friendships without spending a cent. That said, our growing community’s needs have evolved. We now rely on supporter contributions and venue partnerships to cover essentials like medical supplies, sanitiser, and upgraded sound systems to ensure everyone has a safe, unforgettable experience.

At our core, we’re still that little group of friends who just wanted to dance. But today, we’re also a movement—proving that joy, generosity, and genuine human connection can create waves of change. Come sway with us on the beach, join a ticketed event for a cause, or simply be part of a community that believes in dancing for something bigger.
